Official Course Description:
The goal of the course is to introduce basic tools for both local and global study of phenomena in complex geometry. Suggested background for the course is knowledge of the 1-dimensional theory, e.g. as presented in the book of Ahlfors.
The topics to be studied include the local theory of analytic sets and algebraic varieties. Mapping theory and the theory of modifications on both the algebraic and analytic sides will be emphasized. Basics on sheaves and their cohomology will be presented. Global invariants of compact manifolds and their vector bundles will be introduced. Proofs of theorems of Riemann-Roch type will be outlined with the main emphasis being on their applications. Important examples for the classification theory of curves, surfaces and 3-folds will be presented throughout the course.
