Official Course Description:
Students with an adequate background in a field of chemistry are invited to join a research group of their choice in either organic, inorganic, analytical or computational chemistry. The students will be assigned a short research project in a cutting edge field of chemical research. Within the course students will learn under direct supervision of graduate students how to plan, carry out and interpret chemical experiments using modern equipment in the research laboratories of Jacobs University.
Students are expected to attend research group meetings of the individual research groups to further their knowledge in a specialised field of chemical research. It is expected that the students work at least one full day a week in the research laboratories. At the end of this course students are expected to summarise their results in a short report and give an oral presentation defending their results in a research group seminar.
